Embracing Life Fully: The Power of Acceptance, Choice, and Living on Your Terms

Often when people think of “living life fully” they think of living a life full of action and adventure, indulgences, and the like. What if living life fully actually meant embracing ALL of our experiences. In other words, accepting the good, the bad and the ugly. The joys and the tribulations. The comforts and the discomforts. To live in fully in a life of this AND that, rather than this OR that.

Not only that, what if you were to live life fully on your terms? Where do you think life might take you if you decided how you were going to live it? What would life offer you if you were to free your spirit to direct the life you were meant to live?

Living life fully also involves appreciating the current moment, engaging with your surroundings, and fostering a sense of gratitude for what you have.

Freeing your spirit means to allow the essence of life to emerge from you, rather than life happening to you. You were born into this life and you were also alive before you entered this world fully.

The Miracle of Life

The magic of life happens when a certain connection is made. Like for example, the union of a sperm cell and an egg cell, making a decision, conceiving an idea from divine inspiration, and when two romantic partners meet. It also happens when we can deeply connect with our inner being, the essence of life in a child being born or a flower blooming. Even when we can connect to the life force energy of a tree, moon, stars, wild animals, pets.

This connection makes us feel something. One thing to feel that can either expand or shrink our life experience is courage. This concept was revealed in a quote from Anaïs Nin who said,Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” Being in contact with something creates sensations in our body and stirs up emotion.

Minding Our Emotional Body

Our thoughts about what arises generate feelings about the experience and this is how connections and associations happen. Once we realize this we can choose to maintain a connection or choose when we want to disconnect.

Sometimes when something gets “glitchy” and not working way we want it too we can “reset” or “restart”. This just takes a little moment to step back, unplug and then intentionally come back to it. Computers and other devices are perfect examples of this and serves as a great analogy we can apply to other parts of our life.

So coming back to living life fully on your terms, means to connect and feel into the intensity of various sensations, notice what thoughts and feelings come up, and use all that information to choose what connections we want to strengthen, which need a reset, when it’s time for a fresh start, and when it’s time to get an upgrade our life. It may also mean disconnecting from the old (job, home, relationships, business, devices) and choose something new going forward that best supports how you are operating in life now.

All this takes courage, and from this place you can truly expand your capacity to live life fully. Without it, life can feel very small. It may seem very limited. Courage is what it will take to master fear. Having the courage to change, and cultivating that can be as simple as bringing focus to your breath to calm your mind and reduce anxiety. This is a key for practicing mindfulness and presence which allows you to experience life more fully.

How to Start Living Life Fully

Connecting with your breath and being in harmony with your life rhythm is a beautiful way to truly begin living life more fully and on your terms. By connecting with your breath and understanding your life rhythm, you can cultivate a deeper appreciation for the present and shape your life in a way that is meaningful to you.

Being in union with your heart and soul and allowing your spirit to be free, is usually the best way to BE with life. It’s about being intentional and authentic in how you live, rather than conforming to external expectations.

May you experience all of life.
